Looking at the center of the Philippines today, in geographic aspect and in terms of what the focus of development is at present. Cebu has become a center city in different aspects. Recently there was a lot of activities in Cebu. Different sectors prepared for the ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations). Keeping the city busy for securing the whole city's security, maintenance, beautification, development and redevelopment. Keeping the government, business', private citizens, etc... all busy...
One controversial development in Cebu is the CICC (Cebu International Convention Center) that has been given a multi million budget allocation. This convention center has been a very fast development for Cebu, the start or beginning date until the target completion date is very short compared to regular terms of building these kinds of infrastructures. I guess, allocating a large budget would take out that problem of time, money talks right? For instance, allocating or overbudgeting allocations for defferent contractors just to accomplish or push the completion date to an earlier date.
Looking at another aspect, the Cebu maintenance, beautification, development, re-development was really well done. At the same time, again, giving a large amount of budget for these. Cebu has been seen to have a dramatic change overnight in some of its areas, but the whole city itself has been seen to have dramatic changes in a short span of time. The roads have been repaired; walls, roads, sidewalks, pedestrians, signs, etc. has been placed and repainted.
Today, if we see Cebu, its a totally different city... It doesn't look and feel like being in the Philippines... Well as my good friend from there said...
There were a lot of Developments and a lot of changes...
Question is, where did the funds or budget come from? is this from the governenment or the national treasury? Loans? or from ASEAN?
Anyways,
The ASEAN has passed and I hope there were a lot of things that were accomplished in this... If so, every penny spent wisely then...
A lot of spending has been given to Cebu development. But seeing all these developments now, until when will these last? Will the government not maintain this development or just have the "NINGAS CUGON" value of the Filipino...
I certainly hope not...
These developments of Cebu would surely take this city to another level... Right now a lot of tycoons and foreign investors has been coming in Cebu, for instance, a lot of developers and tycoons are coming in.. From the Ayala land, the owners of Robinsons and Unversal Robina (Gokongwei) and a lot of other people... Its social society being intact and unlike in Metro Manila, somtimes people are hypocrites, but then that cannot be avoided, but at least Cebu's society is still more sincere than the people in Metro Manila... Foreigners are investing mostly in Cebu property and development of travel and leisure places, like beaches...
With this sudden and immediate facelift of Cebu, we could see that it is possible to make our cities do better, look better or progress...
Its just that we don't want to, yes us citizens and the government... Too lazy, too much beureaucacy...
When do we change our attitudes and how we look at things to change for the better of our country... When do we move on from our selfish vested interest and decide to unite as one to make our country a better place to live in...
This is the problem why the country don't progress... People don't do each and everyone's part...
In preparation for the ASEAN, we see that Cebu was successful in making the facelift of the city possible...
Its not that politicians and government has no fault but the thing is that the citizens like blaming and throwing rocks on the government especially PGMA, but then do they really know what's going on... Do they do their parts in making the country they live in a better place or just rely and depend like little babies on what the government can do and must do to make their lives a better... To those people... The government serves the whole country and not only you... Don't expect that the government will be serving you but you have to do your part in making your life a better life... Im pretty sure that the administration of PGMA now is doing their own parts in making people's lives and the country a better place to live in... Who doesn't? Maybe its own people coz they do not want to cooperate...
Well, I hope that this recent thing we saw in Cebu shows that we could make things possible if we are just determined to...
I hope that the government doesn't put to waste the potential and its money invested in Cebu, by not only making that useful for the ASEAN, but maintaining it and making it even better, at the same time, make the same moves for other citites...
